By: Reilly Koch, Assistant to Madalyn Manzeck
“Giving back is always in style.”
If I had to sum up the events that took place the night of Thursday, June 1st, nothing could better describe them than this quote. Thanks to the selfless, hard work of Kara Alexander and her efforts to put on the first (annual!) Haute on Broadway Fashion and Art Show, This Time Tomorrow, a foundation dedicated to providing financial support to families battling cancer, benefited from a night of many, generous individuals.
From live artist paintings, singers, dancers, and (of course) fashion, the event had it ALL, and I got to experience the excitement from behind the scenes as Madalyn’s assistant. Since Madalyn was showing her NOIR COLLECTION for the first time as a full collection (that’s a total of 11 looks folks) there was a lot to be done, so I was more than happy to chip in any help that I could. At times, this meant running around wrangling models, fluffing skirts, and assisting with quick changes, which at first, can sound a little mundane but in all truthfulness it’s this “go, go, go!” aspect of the fashion industry that I love, and it keeps me coming back for more. Though I didn’t see the show from the same perspective as the patrons that sat alongside the runway, I got to see the inner-workings of what goes into a show and for me, that’s the experience I prefer most.
Unfortunately, my time as Madalyn’s assistant is quickly approaching its end (how can it already be just two more weeks?!) but in the meantime, I’m going to soak in everything that this position has offered me and will continue to offer as I move forward. I am so incredibly thankful for this opportunity, and I cannot wait to spend two more fulfilling weeks with the best “boss” out there!
Peace. Love. Lingerie.
xx,
Reilly
